wHAT IS PRIMALOFT®?

PrimaLoft produces premium insulation, functional textiles and yarns used in high-end outdoor clothing and equipment. The US manufacturer made its name with synthetic insulation materials in particular. “Primaloft” is often used synonymously with “synthetic fibre insulation” or “synthetic down”.

PrimaLoft® padding is actually among the materials most frequently used in outdoor equipment. Hardly surprising considering they are light, pack down small, are highly insulating, water-repellent, windproof, breathable, moisture-regulating, and they retain warmth even when wet.

PrimaLoft® insulation has been a mainstay of Martini Sportswear collections for years – in summer and winter. Many of our warm jackets, waistcoats, trousers and skirts are padded with PrimaLoft® Gold – with thickness varying depending on the area of application. PrimaLoft® Gold is among the highest-performing insulations on the market and is made from 100% recycled polyester.

HOW DOES pRIMALOFT® INSULATION MATERIAL WORK?

PrimaLoft® insulation is made from ultrafine, soft microfibres from polyester, connected at millions of contact points. They create a tightly cross-linked tangle of fibres with countless little air chambers that trap body heat, allow air to circulate, while also protecting against cold from outside. The structure and function of PrimaLoft® padding is modelled on that of goose down, which is often used in outdoor clothing.

WHAT ARE THE INSULATING PROPERTIES OF PRIMALOFT®?

PrimaLoft® scores high with its excellent ratio of warmth, weight and volume. With its fibre thickness of less than one Denier (that’s less than one gram per 9,000 metres), PrimaLoft® fibres are finer than all other synthetic fibre insulation materials on the market. The result: better heat retention and more fill power.

Much like down, PrimaLoft® clings perfectly to the body, is compressible to a small size and extraordinarily warm. In some ways, however, the synthetic insulation is clearly superior to the natural material: Thanks to a special PFC-free impregnation, PrimaLoft® fibres are water-repellent. And even when wet, they retain their puffy shape and about 98% of their insulating properties. Unlike down, PrimaLoft® padding keeps you perfectly warm, even in the rain, in high humidity, or when you break a sweat. At the same time, water vapours can escape the clothing unhindered at any time – for a pleasantly dry feel.

In addition, PrimaLoft® is free of animal materials, making it ethically sound and allergy-friendly.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PRIMALOFT®?

The classic PrimaLoft® insulation comes in three quality grades, which differ in fibre technology and blend: PrimaLoft® Gold, PrimaLoft® Silver and PrimaLoft® Black. Martini Sportswear uses only the manufacturer’s highest-performing insulation material, PrimaLoft® Gold.
